Riccardo Bagnoli

Petralito Rotiroti Associati

This image has no alt text

This picture (more after the jump) is from an event curated by Italian group Petralito Rotiroti Associati (dedicated to graphic design, visual identity, editorials, graphics for exhibitions, and events). It involved five Italian street artists (BROS, ERON, IVAN, NAIS, OZMO) in a unique, experientially focused exhibition. Amazing venue too.

“The exhibit hosted by the Urban Metamorphoses section of the 2009 Creativity Festival showcases experiences rather than works of art. The project envisions five private spaces of which each artist takes possession and expresses his or her own artistic experience. The five previously unpublished works have been especially created for the exhibition and are featured in spaces where visitors can go in and listen to the narrations of each artist. The exhibition is curated by Michelangelo Petralito, Gianni De Simone, Iolanda Rotiroti and Serena Vinattieri.”

Recession Design UPDATE

On the weekend I heard from Recession Design, who’s apparently a collective in Milan. This furniture collection was presented during the Milan Design Week in April. Thanks so much for the follow-up, the stuff looks really interesting.

“RECESSION DESIGN is an event-provocation on the theme of “DO IT YOURSELF DESIGN” that ironically (to a certain extent) presents a way of “designing” that goes beyond current trends and places the object
in its essential form and function at the forefront. Recession Design is a collection of objects created using everyday DIY products that are processed and assembled using common utensils and accessories.”

He’s an Italian graffiti artist that paints gigantic wall pieces, whose also done some cool stop-motion work. MUTO is definitely one of them worth checking out. Really impressive for it’s length and the sheer amount of wall coverage (not to mention all the other graffiti he paints over). Check his site here, be sure to scroll through the blog.

Bianchi & Acne Jeans

Another cultural/counter-cultural zeitgeist collaboration: the Italian bicycle manufacturer Bianchi and the Swedish high-end fashion house Acne teamed up to produce some track bikes in great colorways with some typography from deep in the archives.

Acne x Bianchi Bicycles

The bicycle itself looks to be identical to a Bianchi Pista with respect to geometry and components. As a bicycle, the Pista doesn’t do much for me. The geometry doesn’t make any sense, particularly because Pista riders typically ride in the streets and typically don’t ever see a velodrome. Why, then, cling to the 28mm fork rake? Your feet most certainly get in the way of turning the front wheel. The Pista fork is actually hideous in all respects. Acne just put lipstick on the pig, but it works well visually. I could see myself ordering one of these frames.
