What a Mustache Says About A Man’s Profession

jobs-apple-3jpg

A lot can be told by a man’s mustache, and it seems certain professions have their own. For some it can be a small handlebar, and for others it can be a bushy chevron. The bottom line however, is that the hair on a man’s upper lip can rightfully be understood as a window into his soul.  GEt the full list here

Quote of Note | Dennis Freedman

breck and isla.jpg

“These are [women’s magazine] covers that look like Breck ads. But my question is, did they intend for them to look like Breck ads? Is there irony? Is there subversion? Because there is no question they are retouched beyond any possible reflection of what’s actually in front of the camera.”

Painter Christian Rex van Minnen

rex-1.jpg rex-2.jpg

Taking Surrealism back to its roots, Denver-based painter Christian Rex van Minnen has a less direct approach but similar style to that of Giuseppe Arcimboldo‘s sixteenth-century portrait heads.

Playing with finely-rendered textures and visceral components suggesting organs, skin, meat, crustaceans and plant life, but also including more literal elements like flowers, clothing and silhouettes, the artist uses dramatic, one-point lighting adding a depth and creepiness to his work, drawing out the grotesque forms and surfaces.

House of Lacroix Files for Bankruptcy

CL(Marcio Madeira).jpgWe knew something was amiss when Christian Lacroix showed his fall 2009 ready-to-wear collection in a Parisian parking lot. And then there was the rumored—but never consummated—deal to sell a stake in the business to mysterious Swiss buyers. Let the baroque/broke puns fly, because today the French fashion house announced that it is seeking protection from creditors (the transatlantic equivalent of filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy). Known for its gilded gypsy gowns and iconic pouf skirts, Christian Lacroix has never turned a profit and last year hemorrhaged €10 million ($13.9 million). The house was purchased from Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy in 2005 by the Falic Group, a Miami-based duty-free retailer with an ambitious restructuring scheme that was foiled by the global financial meltdown. Even with the business on the brink of financial collapse, the owners have pledged not to give up. According to Lacroix CEO Nicolas Topiol, “The company expects to emerge quickly from those proceedings and to continue developing the brand.”
