Grail Watch 1 “Carpe Diem” is a Ressence x Alain Silberstein collaboration

Grail Watch 1 Design

True blue watch enthusiasts know who Max Büsser is, and he’s getting the Grail Watch 1. This isn’t a new watch from his brand, but the Grail Watch 1 is the first watch collaboration between Ressence and Alain Silberstein together with Grail Watch and Busser will receive piece number one.

Max Büsser, the founder of MB&F, was presented the idea of the Grail Watch by notable watch enthusiasts and writer Wei Koh. Büsser expressed his interest in the first Grail Watch. Since then, the Grail Watch 1 has made rounds among the watchmakers and watch aficionados as the latest timepiece to acquire.

Designers: Benoît Mintiens and Alain Silberstein

Grail Watch 1 Details

The Grail Watch 1 is a project by Ressence × Alain Silberstein. Ressence Watches is a brand headed by Benoît Mintiens. Ressence is known for its pragmatic displays, minimalistic mechanical designs, and high prices. Meanwhile, Alain Silberstein is the first man to deliver art, architecture, and playfulness to modern watchmaking.

The two working together resulted in the Grail Watch 1. It is the first from a new company that aims to create and make dream watches real. The brand comes up with limited edition watches that are not opportunistic but rather imaginative and ambitious.

Grail Watch 1 Launch

Grail Watch 1

Grail Watch 1 shows us what Ressence and Alain Silberstein have to offer. The Grail Watch brand celebrates independent watchmaking, and founder Wei Koh believes the limited series will offer the watch owners meaning, positivity, and inspiration. Alain Silberstein and Benoît Mintiens were the first watchmakers Koh approached.

The Grail Watch 1 will remind you to seize the day and every moment in your life. Officially called the GRAIL WATCH 1: RESSENCE × ALAIN SILBERSTEIN “CARPE DIEM”, this timepiece is based on Ressence’s Type 1 design. The design is then layered with Alain Silberstein’s iconography.

Grail Watch 1 Form

The limited edition watch combines the designs by Mintiens and Silberstein. Mintiens’ Ressence is usually minimalistic, but the Grail Watch 1 is bold. Silberstein then included some of his favorite paintings as part of the design—the Vanitas, Still Life with Tulip, Skull, and Hour Glass—by French artist Philippe de Champaigne. It offers a poetic meaning as the tulip, skull, and hourglass remind us time is passing.

The Grail Watch 1 comes with a price tag that reads $24,300. It will be ready by the end of May 2022. Only 36 pieces will be available as a tribute to Judaism’s Lamed Vav Tzadikim concept. Silberstein’s idea was to honor the 36 righteous individuals in every generation according to his religion.

This custom-made circular Game Boy is an object of pure weirdness

I don’t think anybody’s ever held a Game Boy and gone “Maybe this would be better as a circular device”. Sure, it would look cool, but the potential pros are heavily outweighed by the potential cons. Nevertheless, here we are with Love Hultén’s latest custom build, a weirdly circular Nintendo Game Boy that also comes with a circular display to match its body. At best, it’s weirdly fun, at worst it’s a usability nightmare, but then again, Hultén isn’t planning on selling this piece. It’s purely a custom build to flex his DIY skills and probably rile the internet up a little.

Designer: Love Hultén

From the looks of it, Hultén’s custom build was pretty much made from scratch and didn’t involve harming or hurting any existing Game Boys. Having extensively worked with circular displays (and even integrated a few into his custom-made synthesizers), Hultén managed to find a 5-inch IPS display he could spare for this build. The body looks like it was made from scratch, and the origin of those buttons could be anyone’s guess. Speaking of guessing, this custom Game Boy probably runs off an emulator fitted within its base. That also probably means all your games need to be sideloaded, and the circular Game Boy doesn’t have a slot at the back to input cartridges… although I wouldn’t put it past Hultén to actually make his own circular cartridges too!

Fiture offers a stylish fitness mirror that can fit with your room decor

There has been an uptick in personal fitness equipment and platforms in the past two years or so, with many people stuck at home and having no access to public gyms or outdoor spaces. Some of these seemed exorbitantly overpriced while offering little over common exercise machines. Others, on the other hand, are more accessible but make no effort to hide their less than aesthetic appearances. Striking a balance between useful and beautiful has been a delicate dancing act for many new companies, but one newcomer believes it has struck gold with a smart home device that lets you do your exercise in the privacy of your own room while it looks almost as pretty as your bedroom’s full-length mirror. In fact, it actually works like one.

Designer: Fiture

Fitness mirrors are not completely new, but they experienced a spike in interest and popularity in the past months as people tried to cope with having no access to gyms or personal trainers at home. The idea is to have a device that lets you communicate with a remote trainer while you go through your exercises at home. The mirror acts as a display that guides you through the reps while a trainer watches you from the other side of the wire. There are already quite a few of these in the market, but Fiture believes it has a better chance of ending up in your house because of two differentiating features.

The first and the most apparent is that the Fiture fitness mirror actually looks more like a fancy home mirror than a machine masquerading as one. While the generically named “The Mirror” also lays claim to that title, the Fiture does one better by offering five colorways to match your decor or wallpaper. The shape of the mirror itself is more visually pleasing, employing rounded corners and brushed metal surfaces to make the frame look more aesthetic. The U-shaped legs provide stability when the mirror isn’t mounted on the wall while also giving it a more distinctive style.

Unlike other fitness mirrors, however, the Fiture isn’t a two-way mirror into your house, one of the biggest concerns interested buyers have. It’s for this purpose that the company invented what it calls “Motion Engine Technology” to protect your privacy. In a nutshell, the mirror and your trainer only see skeleton points as you move, so you can work out with bed hair, and no one will be the wiser. When not in use, you can even put on the magnetic camera cover to completely block out even this AI-based technology.

The Fiture isn’t cheap, of course, especially when you add the monthly subscription that gives you access to content and trainers. Then again, you might end up paying more with a gym membership that doesn’t give you the same privacy and convenience of an at-home workout. Plus, you also get to have a full-body mirror that doesn’t look like a fitness device when not in use. Just don’t forget to put on the camera cover when you’re dong using it, just in case.

Designer Alain Silberstein + Ressence Collaborate on “Carpe Diem” Type 1 REV Wristwatch

An artistic automatic timepiece exclusive to independent watchmaker platform Grail Watches

Few wristwatches can boast the technical and artistic merit of the limited edition Carpe Diem Ressence Type 1 REV, also known as the Grail Watch 1 because it was launched by Revolution founder Wei Koh’s Grail Watch, a new platform for unique, collaborative and substantive releases from independent or artisan-backed brands. Anyone familiar with the wonders of Ressence will recognize that the basis of this colorful, geometric release is the Ressence Type 1 Slim, one of a number of groundbreaking timepieces from founder Benoît Mintiens‘s pioneering Belgian brand. The artful infusion, however, is by designer Alain Silberstein (a former architect and friend of Mintiens), who looked to historic French artist Philippe de Champaigne’s 1646 painting “Vanitas” for inspiration in expressing the passage—and urgency—of time.

This 41.5mm, grade-five titanium wristwatch features a variation of Ressence’s convex mesh dial composed of three “biaxial satellites” (or revolving sub-dials) that tell the hours, day and day of the week. However, Silberstein incorporates meaningful graphic detailing—a petite “wilting” tulip indicates the hours, a small skull is at the center of the running seconds and a yellow triangle points toward the day of the week. By night (or in the dark), blue lume accents offer each element an eerie glow. Together, these attributes address the ephemeral undercurrent of life, time and material possession.

Powering the piece is Ressence’s patented ROCS 1 System and a modified ETA 2892/A self-winding movement unlike any other, that also grants manual winding (and time setting) through a lever on the back of the case. Altogether, 212 components bring this technical creation to life in a case that was slimmed to an 11mm width.

The watch will be available for $24,300 on 1 May exclusively at Grail Watch. It will be limited to 36 pieces, Silberstein’s ode to the concept of Lamed Vav Tzadikim in Judaism, otherwise known as the 36 righteous individuals.

Seletti LVDIS Marble Fitness Equipment inspired by ancient Rome

LVDIS Seletti Alessandro Zambelli Marble Fitness Equipment Design

Working out doesn’t have to be boring, especially now there is plenty of tools, equipment, shoes, and athleisure wear available on the market. The gym equipment industry has come to a point where brands and manufacturers can design the products as they please.

Your dumbbells and plates for weight lifting shouldn’t just remain black. The material doesn’t always have to be always metal either, as alternatives are available. We are still raving about the Kenko Sports Equipment because of its minimalist aesthetic and sustainable approach. There was also the Hi Moon Kettlebell that could very well be mistaken for a wireless speaker. The products may be taken over soon by the marble equipment series from Seletti.

Designer: Alessandro Zambelli

LVDIS Seletti Alessandro Zambelli Marble Fitness Equipment

Designed by Italian designer Alessandro Zambelli, these marble weights are a sight for sore eyes. And, if you’re tired of the smelly and rusty weights in your home gym, you may consider the marble. The set is one-of-a-kind as we’ve never really imagined marble could be used.

The inspiration for the Seletti LVDIS Marble Weights is ancient Rome. It makes sense since sports used to be very important in ancient Rome and Greece. The ancient games would draw big crowds for centuries, and to copy the experience, the LVDIS is here to offer inspiration.

LVDIS (ludis) means “sports” in Latin, so this set of marble weights has everything to do with sports. Unfortunately, some people forget that weightlifting is a sport, but LVDIS will change all that. And even if you don’t lift weights or are not interested in getting fit, you can still have these dumbbells to display at home.

Showing off a beautiful set of marble weights seems pretentious, but that’s what excellent design delivers—inspiration. So display the LVDIS somewhere at home; maybe you’ll be inspired to get moving finally. Each piece is beautifully made with immaculate white marble and appears like a piece of art you may want to showcase.

The Seletti LVDIS series of marble weights can be considered art. They are sculptural in many ways while still being utilitarian. This isn’t the first series designed by Zambelli for Seletti. She has previously designed tableware and other decorative objects for the brand that connects design to pop art. A few years ago, we saw the Woodspot Lamp that we mentioned could hit the right spot.

Seletti believes in blending art with daily life icons and allowing a vision for a unique yet fun lifestyle. Seletti’s idea of beauty involves innovation at originality, which is an ongoing journey. We can expect more similar products with minimalist aesthetics will be conceptualized and manufactured.

Clever DIY Hemp Lighter, With One-Handed Extinguishing Operation

This person rigged up this elegant little lighter, that can be extinguished with one hand:

If the application’s not obvious, “This is for lighting pipes/smoking things and such,” the inventor writes. “In many people’s opinion (myself included), it tastes smoother this way than using butane directly.”

Critics on the original thread still did not seem to grasp the utility of the device, leading another commenter to explain:

“It’s not to light a pipe once, it’s to hold into the pipe while inhaling for weed. The candles are not involved at all, that was just for demonstration. You light the hemp with a lighter and hold the hemp to your bowl while inhaling rather than spraying butane into your lungs.”

The Unique Bristle Configuration of the Collis Curve Toothbrush

Most of us take the ability to brush our teeth, making all of those fine circular movements, for granted. But for those with cognitive and developmental disabilities, or for paralyzed individuals whose teeth are brushed by a caregiver, those motions can be difficult-to-impossible to execute. An assistive device has been developed in the Collis Curve toothbrush, with a unique bristle configuration that cleans teeth more thoroughly with less complicated motions required:

– Adaptive device for limited manual dexterity, i.e. Parkinson’s disease and arthritis

– Preferred by caregivers, occupational therapists, dental hygienists, dentists, care homes, and hospitals for assisted brushing

– Cleans around braces, crowns, and implants

– Quick and easy brushing technique

– Reaches into pockets and recessed gumlines

The Colllis Curve was invented by dentist George Collis following his experiences brushing his father’s teeth, who suffered from Parkinson’s. The company offers five different sizes, covering children’s mouths all the way up to elderly mouths that contain implants or dental appliances.

Here’s an illustration of the physics of the bristle configuration’s efficacy:
