Frattinifrilli Domm chair for VDF x Ventura Projects

A multifunctional stool and bentwood chair are two of Frattinifrilli’s latest products, launching as part of VDF’s collaboration with Ventura Projects.

Frattinifrilli is an Italian design studio led by Davide Frattini Frilli that specialises in product and interior design.

It is introducing two of its latest furniture pieces, the Domm chair and Trido stool, as part of the VDF’s x Ventura Projects collaboration.

The Domm chair is designed as an evolution of traditional bentwood chairs, distinguished by a structure made from rings of blackened beech. This bentwood frame also doubles as the chair’s back and arm rest, and is teamed with a woven Vienna straw seat.

Frattinifrilli’s Trido stool has a more minimalist aesthetic, and is available in two different sizes. It is composed of just two sheets of aluminium that are folded into triangular shapes that can be used as a stool, side table or magazine rack.

Ecopixel products for VDF x Ventura Projects

Manufacturing company Ecopixel is showcasing its contribution towards a circular economy as part of the VDF x Ventura Projects collaboration.

Project title: Ecopixel recycled plastics

Ecopixel is an Italian manufacturing company that makes bespoke products from shredded plastic waste.

The company is introducing its product line at VDF x Ventura Projects to demonstrate what can be made from “what others throw away”, and how it contributes to a circular economy.

Its goal is to highlight the importance of using mono-polymer plastics when creating recycled products, rather than mixing different materials. This ensures a product is continually recyclable and reusable at the end of its useful life.

Spelk surface collection offers "contradictory sensory experience"

Orla Lawn introduces Spelk, a series of smooth and splintered architectural surfaces, as part of VDF’s collaboration with Ventura Projects.

Project title: Spelk

Orla Lawn is a product designer specialising in surface design that combines traditional craft techniques with modern engineered materials.

Lawn is showcasing Spelk, a collection of decorative wooden surfaces, during the VDF x Ventura Projects collaboration.

Spelk is designed for use as an architectural surface, and is characterised by a rough splintered appearance that is soft to touch. This offers “a contradictory sensory experience”.

Each panel is made using Oriented Strand Board, a type of engineered wood, which she modifies using a unique handcrafted finishing technique that enhances its natural qualities. It is an unpredictable process meaning that no two pieces the same.

Museum of Modern Waste at VDF x Ventura Projects

Pieces of rubbish are displayed as artefacts in the Museum of Modern Waste, which Design School Kolding is exhibiting as part of VDF x Ventura Projects.

Project title: Museum of Modern Waste (MOMW)

Design School Kolding is an arts university located in Denmark. During the VDF x Ventura Projects collaboration, it is presenting its travelling exhibition named Museum of Modern Waste (MOMW).

Described by the school as “a unique combination of a waste sorting machine and a museum”, MOMW investigates waste as a precious commodity.

It exhibits pieces of rubbish in the same way “you would collections of rare butterfly species and contemporary art”, with the aim of challenging people’s perception of waste.

Design School Kolding hopes it will motivate sustainable change at an individual and societal level.

Mush-Hues by Circular Union for VDF x Ventura Projects

Circular Union is launching Mush-Hues, a range of mushroom-based wood and fabric dyes, for the VDF x Ventura Projects collaboration.

Project title: Mush-Hues

Circular Union is a multidisciplinary collective based in New York and Maine with a focus on the development of sustainable design and materials.

Its latest design and research project is Mush-Hues, launching as part of VDF x Ventura Projects, which explores the use of mushrooms as eco-friendly dyes.

Mush-Hues features over 50 different mushroom-based colour treatments that can be used to dye wood and textiles in the form of “mushroom teas”, with hues ranging soft yellows and greens to bright pinks and purples.

The dyes were created through extensive testing using a range of cooking and fermentation methods, and have been trialed by Circular Union using reclaimed pine-wood boards.

KOY uses terracotta to create biomorphic furniture collection

KOY for VDF x Ventura Projects

KOY is introducing The Sculptural Forms Of Terracotta, a collection of biomorphic furniture, at VDF x Ventura Projects.

Project title: The Sculptural Forms Of Terracotta

KOY is a home and lifestyle brand founded by designer Kunaal Kyhaan that studies traditional Indian design and materials to create contemporary furniture.

Its latest collection, The Sculptural Forms Of Terracotta, is launching during the VDF x Ventura Projects collaboration.

The Sculptural Forms Of Terracotta features a range of indoor and outdoor furnishings with “biomorphic forms”. Each piece is made using terracotta.

It was developed in response to Kyhaan’s time spent working with terracotta artisans from across India.

Clout celebrates South African design with launch of Bodulo furniture

Bodulo Collection by Khoshi Leteba for Cloud as part of VDF x Ventura Projects

Clout is bringing South African design to VDF x Ventura Projects in its launch of a furniture collection by emerging designer Khosi Leteba.

Project title: South African Designers prepare for Milan 2021

Clout is an initiative and online marketplace established by Nando’s in 2015, which exists to support and showcase designers from South Africa.

In 2019 it hosted Clout Industry Days at 100% Design South Africa, during which local designers were invited share their designs with industry experts for a chance to fabricate them.

As part of VDF x Ventura Projects, Clout will exhibit the winning furniture collection from the event by Khosi Leteba, which has now been brought to life in collaboration with Wiid Design Studio. Named Bodulo, the collection celebrates different elements of the Basotho lifestyle.

Clout’s showcase also spotlights the other winning concepts from the event, alongside works by the designers from Nando’s Hot Young Designer Talent Search.

Margaux de Penfentenyo is launching Landscape Lamp, a sculptural lighting collection, during the VDF x Ventura Projects collaboration.

Project title: Landscape Lamp

Margaux de Penfentenyo is Mexican artist and designer. Her most recent collection is Landscape Lamp, which she is introducing as part of VDF x Ventura Projects.

Landscape Lamp is a lighting collection modelled on geological strata. It comprises sculptural floor lamps in three different sizes.

Each lamp is handmade using wood, acrylic paint, cotton, and led strips, and punctured by a hollow centre from which the light shines.

According to Penfentenyo, the range “blurs the line between fine art and design”, doubling as a tree-like sculpture during the day and a light source at night.

Studio Kali for VDF x Ventura Projects

Studio Kali is presenting two collections of handmade homeware as part of the VDF collaboration with Ventura Projects.

Project title: Sama Furniture Collection and Ege & Yakamoz Kilim Rugs

Studio Kali is a multidisciplinary design studio in Istanbul, founded by industrial designer Fulden Topaloglu.

The studio is introducing two of its latest collections, Sama and the Ege & Yakamoz Kilim Rug range, as part of the VDF collaboration with Ventura Projects.

Sama is a furniture collection defined by curved metal forms, which reference the traditional clothing worn during Sufi ceremonies. Each piece is made individually by local artisans in Istanbul.

The colourful Ege and Yakamoz Kilim Rugs pay homage to the Mediterranean Sea. They are handwoven by Anatolian weavers using traditional techniques, and wool that is stained with vegetable dyes.

Supertopmegacool explores the rhetoric of everyday objects in The Rhetorical Dinner, which it is presenting as part of VDF x Ventura Projects.

Supertopmegacool is a design studio based in London and Paris. The studio is exhibiting its latest work, The Rhetorical Dinner, as part of the VDF x Ventura Projects collaboration.

The Rhetorical Dinner is a conceptual project that comprises a collection tableware with exaggerated, playful and unusable forms. These are intended as “rhetorical devices”.

Supertopmegacool’s aim is to invite viewers to reconsider the culture and value of the object and its rhetoric in what it calls “a disturbing dinner”.
