Daily Obsesh – Bandada Mirador Silver Ring Set

imageBANDADA is a young brand of jewelry created in 2008 in Barcelona by Ana Maria Ramirez and Adriana Diaz.

Designs are often inspired by the architecture of their environment, namely Barcelona. Their designs are expressed with strong minimalistic geometric shapes in silver and gold, sometimes with pops of bright colors. The girls believe that jewelry is a medium within which people are able to express themselves. The young designers seek a balance between this freedom to express personal style and a combination of form and functionality with each of their pieces.

Their newest collection, the Mirador collection, is a line of stackable rings that truly exemplify the architectural lines and geometric shapes of their home. The Mirador Ring 2 is one of three distinct designs in the collection and is a silver ring with a black square top. Wear it alone or stack it with the others in the set.

Outstanding Young Person of the World award winner’s amazing solar-powered ‘fridge

0emilycummins.jpg

Emily Cummins of the United Kingdom is only 23, but she’s already invented a solar-powered refrigerator currently being used in Africa. The thing uses zero electricity, can be partially manufactured locally, and keeps its contents at a cool 6 degrees Celsius (43 F).

“I’m passionate about encouraging young people to reach their creative potential, especially in the field of sustainable design,” said Cummins, who learned to tinker in her grandfather’s shop as a child. Cummins was recently named an Oslo Business for Peace Honoree, an award bestowed by Nobel Prize winners, and also won a Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World award from Junior Chamber International, a global nonprofit youth service organization.

Style Staple Inspired Halloween – Private Benjamin/ Military Girl

imageAt Stylehive, we love Halloween, but hate spending money on stuff we’re never going to use again. So we’ve decided to dress up in things we either have or can buy, knowing we will wear these pieces more than just for one night of candy-filled debauchery.

One of the best costumes to stay in style with long after the pumpkins have left the patch, is to emulate that hot 70’s Icon, Private Benjamin, played by Goldie Hawn! Go a literal route, or try a sexy interpretation! Throw on your fave pair of military-inspired boots and you’re ready to go!

Military is easy, wearable and one of the seasons hottest trends. Best of all, these pieces are timeless and can be incorporated for season’s to come! Check out our slideshow for great Military costume inspiration!

London designers Studio Glithero present an installation of 1000 tiles decorated with photosensitive prints at VIVID Gallery in Rotterdam.

Studio Glithero at VIVID Gallery

Part of the designers’ ongoing Blueware project, the tiles are impregnated with a photo-sensitive substance that turns blue when exposed to light.

Plants are used to mask areas while the transformation takes place, leaving a white print behind.

Studio Glithero also present vases made with the same process and tables cast from plaster at the exhibition, which continues until 7 November.

More about the designers’ Blueware project in our earlier story.

Studio Glithero at VIVID Gallery

The information below is from Studio Glithero:

Glithero (Sarah van Gameren and Tim Simpson) are happy to announce that the exhibition in VIVID is extended with 2 weeks and now runs until November 7th, 2010.

Glithero is the first design studio to exhibit work in Rotterdam’s new VIVID Gallery space. The highlight of this exhibition is a big Blueware wall piece, comprised of almost one thousand tiles with blue photosensitive-prints of plants, made specifically for the space.

Studio Glithero at VIVID Gallery
The studio perpetually tries to solve the riddle of how to capture the beauty they see in the moment of transformation. Experimentation with photographic formulas led to the union of the long forgotten photographic technique of cyanotype, and a medium often associated with the colour blue: ceramics. Flowers and humble weeds are arranged on vases and tiles with a cyanotype infused surface and then exposed to UV light. The visible area turns intensely blue and a ghostly white shadow remains hidden behind the flower. The tile patterns are created with pressed specimens composed between sheets of glass like a photographic negative, and are the first step in Glithero’s attempt to find their own dialogue between craft and design.

As well as the Blueware collection Glithero also present the new ‘Running Mould’ tables based on the artisan craft of cornice making. It is exhibited as follow up of the performative design installation made for Z33 in Belgium.

Theme

A globalised world, the internet age, the search for durability and innovative energy management are the new values which are being discussed globally. The Interieur Foundation has brought these themes together for the Design Biennale 2010 and the Design Competition, under the heading ‘THE NEW WORLD’. It is a broad theme which allows professionals, designers and innovating minds to answer our call and to surprise the jury with materials, products and services which show the new reality of design.

In Brief: Kanye West Collaborates with Vanessa Beecroft; LVMH Stocks Up on Hermès

  • Ignore the skeptics and believe the hype, fellow aesthetes! “Runaway,” Kanye West‘s new video-cum-short film is an artistic triumph. Filmed in Prague, the 34-minute extravaganza follows West and his ethereal winged girlfriend (Selita Ebanks) on a journey through forests, fires, and feasts, with stops along the way at a modernist crash pad and an impromptu ballet performance. The ballerinas and prevailing Venetian luminousity are early hints that Vanessa Beecroft is involved, and indeed, she is credited as art director on the film, which also showcases the inspired cinematography of Kyle Kibbe and costumes by Phillip Lim and Martin Izquierdo. And keep an eye out for West’s winks at other favorite artists, such as Gregory Crewsdon. We are seriously considering investing in a dedicated jumbo flatscreen for UnBeige HQ that will play “Runaway” on a loop. Watch the full video below.

  • With his star Louis Vuitton brand losing some of its ultraluxe luster in recent years whilst raking in ever larger monogrammed sackfuls of cash, LVMH honcho Bernard Arnault has long eyed the apex of luxury brands: Hermès. Known for its equestrian roots, rich artistic heritage, and uncompromising dedication to quality, the French firm is controlled by the Dumas family, but keep your eye on Monsieur Arnault. Through LVMH, he’s quietly accumulated a 17% stake in Hermès (14.2% directly and an additional 2.9% via derivatives), whose shares have skyrocketed in recent months. “LVMH says it has no ambitions beyond holding a minority stake,” writes Matthew Curtin in today’s Wall Street Journal. “But LVMH has put a marker down should more family members change their minds.”
