Product Review: The Ionator HOM chemical-free cleaning product is amazing

pimg alt=”0ionatortest.jpg” src=”http://s3files.core77.com/blog/images/0ionatortest.jpg” width=”468″ height=”707″ class=”mt-image-none” style=”” //p

pA HREF=”http://www.activeion.com/default.aspx” ActiveIon’s Ionator HOM/A is a magic cleaning machine. Intended as a replacement for endless bottles of spray cleaner, the large, drill-gun-like device converts regular tap water into an ionized mist that lifts dirt off of surfaces and kills bacteria. There are no chemicals involved./p

pFor two months we’ve been putting it through its paces in both a home and commercial environment to see how it stands up. Can regular tap water clean what normally requires bleach, ammonia and other chemicals? /p

pThe answer is yes, and the device is pretty darn impressive in action.br /

Must Have Now: Urban Outfitters Lace Triangle Bralette

imageThere are outfits and occasions that call for undergarments that are practical and supportive above all else, and it’s at these times that I reach for my favorite nude Calvin Klein bras. Other times, much to our grandmother’s dismay, our undergarments have become as much a part of our outfit as the clothing we wear over them. This is where the Urban Outfitters Lace Triangle Bralette comes into play. This is the kind of bra you want to wear for the sole purpose of peeping out of low-cut tops and scooped armhole tanks. I’ve actually checked out more than one girl on street walk buy in this bra, and a few of my girlfriends swear by it. It’s feminine, delicate, and lacy, but provides just enough coverage to be confident you won’t over-expose yourself in your loose fitting tops. While the bralette comes in the usual nude and black, I suggest going for the bold chartreuse or ravenscourt (raspberry) to provide a funky contrast color to your outfits. Of course, the first blush and nude would both look amazing paired with fall’s blacks, navys and greens and are also great for when you are trying to keep your undergarments incognito. Good thing these are only $16.00 each, because it looks like I may need to stock up in every color! Indecision, my wallet‘s worst nightmare…

Where to Buy: Urban Outfitters

Price: $16.00

Kettle by Estelle Sauvage

Kettle by Estelle Sauvage

This kettle by Ecole Nationale supérieure d’Art et de Design de Saint-Etienne graduate Estelle Sauvage uses a light bulb to heat water for a cup of tea.

Kettle by Estelle Sauvage

The incandescent bulb is mounted on a wooden base, while the glass jug has a recess to house the bulb close to but separate from the water.

It can heat water to 90°C.

Here’s some more information from Sauvage:

This kettle works with the heat of an incandescent light bulb 100W, which the sale is forbidden since September, 2009 (in France). and which see ending their production and their existence within homes.

So the revolutionary object finished its life sadly, demonized by the ecology.

This project  just tries to pay a kind of tribute, staging the bulb, and its death.
The kettle becomes out of order, its status of useful object crosses in a fraction of second, an object of memory, a “former” object.

It really works, it does not bring the water to the boil but to an ideal temperature for tea: approximately 85 / 90°C.

It was presented in particular to the Pompidou Center of Metz, on July 4th of this year, during the “market of design” for the event ” Imaginez maintenant “.

Harry Ransom Center Raises $30,000 to Restore Gone with the Wind Dresses

0812gonedress.jpg

Just three weeks after the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas at Austin kicked off a campaign asking for donations to restore five of the original dresses used in the film Gone with the Wind, part of their very large David O. Selznick Collection, which contains more than 5,000 boxes of the legendary film producer’s archives, the museum has announced that they’ve already reached their $30,000 goal. They received donations from more than 600 people across 44 states and 13 countries, helping them to reach their needed total in record pace. The money will be put into working to restore the costumes, which are scheduled to be displayed in 2014, the 75th anniversary of the famous film, as well as giving the museum the ability to loan them out to other organizations following that exhibition. Here’s a bit:

“Most costumes are not constructed to last beyond the production of the film nor are they finished in the same way as a ready-to-wear garment,” said Jill Morena, collection assistant for costumes and personal effects at the Ransom Center. “We’ve taken steps to prevent further damage, but we want to be able to safely display and share the dresses.”

“These generous donations confirm that the film’s legions of fans do, in fact, care,” said Steve Wilson, film curator at the Ransom Center.
